In a final prep for this week’s C-4 District Tournament, the Boone Central/Newman Grove softball team swept a pair of games Monday in triangular action at the Albion Sports Complex.
Boone Central/Newman Grove began the night by dominating Madison/Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (1-26) in a 12-0 three-inning victory.
The Cardinals scored one run in the opening frame, then broke the game open with a 10-run second inning.
The single run would have been enough for Card pitcher Keiley Tisthammer, who earned the win with three hitless innings on the mound. Tisthammer struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Lauren Hedlund, Keiley Tisthammer and Mattie Young all had two hits to lead BC/NG’s 10-hit attack.

Boone Central/Newman Grove capped a soggy, but successful night with another three-inning win. The Cardinals topped their 10-run outburst in game one with a 12-run second inning to defeat Twin River 12-5.
Card starter Emily Groeteke struggled, allowing five runs in the first inning, and Tisthammer came on to earn another win with 2.1 innings relief. Tisthammer allowed no hits and no runs, striking out three and walking two.
BC/NG scored its 12 runs with just six hits, benefiting from eight walks and a Twin River error. Ashtin Kaumans had two hits for the Cardinals, scored two runs, and drove in three runs.

Boone Central/Newman Grove (15-12) is the #2 seed in the C-4 District, which will be held Thursday and Friday at West Point’s Timmerman Park. The Cardinals will open against Madison/Humphrey/LHF Thursday at 1 p.m.
