“Welcome fiends, finks and rapscallions to the Best Laid Plans: A Hollywood Whodunnit presented by The Murder Mystery Company.”
That was the start of a murder mystery performance last Saturday night, Feb. 10, at the Boone County Event Center.
The mystery was set in the 1930s, with a sold out crowd of over 250. The night started with introductions of characters, and and the actors let everyone know they were looking for their “suspects.”
Eight “suspects” were chosen from the crowd during social hour. After the catered meal, while the tables were being cleared, the characters came around and talked to everyone at each table, so questions about the murder could be asked.
Audience members tried to get information from each of the actors to build their case. After that, the murder was explained by Sir Warren Peace. It was his own death that everyone was there to solve.
It happened at his estate in Hollywood, and the other characters were Detective Peter Ness, Oola La, the French maid, and Mary-Katen Ashley, the production assistant.
To solve the mystery, audience members had to find the motive and opportunity from the selected suspects. Each table had to work together as a team to find the clues, and “bribe money” was used to go find those clues from the suspects, who could not lie or make up any of the answers.
Conclusions were reached, and the murderer was eventually found! It was Miss Cherry Bomb (aka Erica Young). The winning table had to figure to give a good description, based on the clues, about how they determined the murderer.
Certificates were presented at the end of the night to the Best Dressed, The Dead Last Team, Detective of the Night, Best Actor and others.
This murder mystery was sponsored by the Boone County Agricultural Society.
