The younger members of Boone Central/Newman Grove’s track and field teams took advantage of improved weather Monday, competing in the Ord 9th/10th grade meet.
The Lady Cardinals edged host Ord 133-131 to win the team title. The BC/NG boys finished sixth.
“We had a nice afternoon to compete, and the kids took advantage of it,” said BC/NG Coach Justin DeWitt. “The girls competed really hard in all events and won the team championship. We also set a lot of season bests – 14 by the girls and four by the boys.”
Jordan Stopak followed up her distance sweep at Central City Friday with a win in the 3200 meter run, and also placed second in the 1600 meters. Samantha Weeder won the high jump and 800 meter run, and was runner-up in the 400 meter dash. Leighann Miller took first in the shot put and second in the discus, while Lauren Hedlund was runner-up in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Marissa Duerksen placed third in both hurdle events, and Boone Central/Newman Grove got runner-up points from the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays.
Wyatt Nissen nabbed second place in the boys 200 meter dash, and the Cardinals placed second in the 4×100 meter relay and third in the 4×400 meter relay.
