Anderson family holds 125th year celebration

More than 70 Anderson family members and friends celebrated the family farm’s 125th anniversary June 29 and 30, east of Petersburg.
Originally settled by Swedish emigrants Anders and Elna Johnson in 1893, the farm has been worked by three generations including Gus and Katie Anderson and Normen and Alice Anderson.
All 10 fourth generation cousins whose parents Velda (Anderson) Nelson, Marvin Anderson and Normen Anderson, along with Uncle Delmar Anderson, all grew up on the farm attended the event.
The 125-Year Celebration included Friday evening sunset and campfire on the farms 8-acre never plowed prairie, a Saturday morning hymn sing led by family friends Jeff and Jan Temme at the Petersburg Park, a tour of the Petersburg Adventist Church led by Jim O’Silka, a laying of flowers on the grave sites of the 16 family members buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and a cookout/picnic at the family farm.
