Boone Central sophomore Abby Brodersen qualified for the Nebraska Class C State Golf Tournament for the second straight year Monday, winning the C-2 District gold medal at Indian Trails Country Club (Beemer).
C-2 medalist honors came down to a duel between Brodersen and West Point-Beemer’s Brook Diekemper, who was competing on her home course. Brodersen went out with a strong 43 on her front nine, then came in with a finishing 46 to hold off the Cadet golfer. Brodersen’s 18-hole 89 was one stroke better than Diekemper, who shot 45/45-90.
Brodersen kept her brief high school district record perfect Monday, winning C-2 gold for the second time. She edged Cecan Porter of Omaha Brownell-Talbot 94-95 at the Fremont Golf Club in 2017. She capped her freshman season by placing 23rd in the 97-player Class C state tournament field at North Platte’s Lake Maloney Golf Course.
Brodersen will return to North Platte for the 2018 state tourney Oct. 8-9. The site for this year’s event is River’s Edge Golf Course.
