Boone Central sophomore Abby Brodersen competed in her second straight state golf tournament this past week, earning the initial state medal of her high school career despite miserable playing conditions at Rivers Edge Golf Course in North Platte.
Brodersen, the C-2 District gold medalist, tied for 12th place in the Class C division of the 2018 Nebraska State Girls Golf Tournament Oc.t 8-9 with a first-day 18-hole round of 94. Although players tried to brave steady rain and temperatures below 40 degrees Tuesday, officials finally called the tournament and awarded team and individual honors based on the single completed round.
Brodersen got off to a slow start in the cold, wet conditions Monday, going out with a 52 on her front nine. She rebounded gamely to post a 42 on her finishing nine holes. The Card soph began her Tuesday round in strong fashion, as well, but was prevented from moving up in the individual standings when the weather and course conditions became unplayable.
