Boone Central FFA members attend national convention

AT NATIONAL CONVENTION — Boone Central FFA members attending national convention were (front, l.-r.) Last week, 14 Boone Central FFA members attended the 2018 National Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, IN.
Two members, Cody Maricle and Dustin Andreasen, competed in the Agriscience Fair, Animal Systems, Division 2.
Their project involved researching the use of hormones in cattle. A highlight of the trip was their sixth place gold medal finish in the national competition.
Members attending the convention were Brooke Groth, Emily Groeteke, Claire Nelson, Bailey Choat, Tyler Beierman, Taylor Weber, Kalli Naber, Zane Niemann, Sam Weeder, Brittany Preister, Cody Maricle, Carson Maricle, Dustin Andreasen and Gavin Dozler.
While at the convention, students spent their time visiting agricultural booths, attending workshops and watching many contests, including Leadership Development Events and Career Development Events. They also attended a Garth Brooks concert that was held for FFA members.
The members attended multiple sessions with speakers and awards. Guest speaker at the opening session was Kyle Scheele. He is an inspiring speaker, writer, and youth expert who motivates students.
The students also had the opportunity to see 4,500 FFA members receive the highest degree awarded by the organization, the American FFA Degree.
While in Indianapolis, students also visited one of the city’s main attractions when they toured the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500. They even got to kiss the bricks.
Overall, the FFA members said they had a great learning experience and were able to experience many opportunities during the week.
