Four fire departments to compete in ‘This Food is on Fire’ Night

Every volunteer firefighter is special. Each of them is willing to risk their life when their pager goes off. Each one is valued by their community. There is no question they are heroes.
The question is: Can they cook?
On Saturday night, Feb. 16, we’ll find out. Farm 4 A Cure is hosting a family night of food, music and fun at “This Food is on Fire Night” at the Event Center at the Boone County Fairgrounds. Four area fire departments — Albion, Genoa, St. Edward and Spalding — have accepted the challenge to put their cooking skills to the test. They will go head-to-head in preparing and serving their food, and will help raise money to assist neighbors in need through Farm 4 A Cure.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and food will be served at 6:30.
Each team will prepare three dishes. Ticket holders will have the opportunity to taste all 12 dishes and then vote to determine which fire department has the best cooks.
During the meal, Nashville singer Gabe Walsh will provide acoustic music. A live auction and silent auction will also be held.
There is an admission charge, but the family maximum cost is $40 and children age five and under are admitted free.
