Albion’s Shopko Hometown to close

Shopko Hometown store in Albion is one of 12 Nebraska stores slated to close in May, 2019.

Albion’s Shopko Hometown store will be closing in May, according to an announcement last Wednesday, Feb. 6.
The Albion store was listed among a dozen Nebraska Shopko or Shopko Hometown locations to close by May 12, 2019.
Other Nebraska stores slated to close in May are Alliance, Ainsworth, West Point, Auburn, Beatrice, Superior, Falls City and Norfolk.
Shopko, a Green Bay, WI, based retailer, declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January. At that time, the company announced it would close all of its Lincoln stores, as well as Shopko Hometown stores in Kimball, Ord and Plattsmouth.
The recently announced closures would leave only three Shopko and five Shopko Hometown stores scheduled to remain open in Nebraska.
Shopko now plans to close more than 250 stores nationwide and keep just more than 100 open as it works through the bankruptcy plan.
Shopko Hometown opened in Albion in March of 2016 in the building vacated by ALCO when it closed in late 2014. The building at 2585 South Highway 14 had been vacant for more than a year before the Shopko Hometown store opened.
