Newman Grove Independent Science Researchers place at science fairs

Participating in the Northeast Nebraska Regional Science Fair were front, l.-r., Elyssa Cuevas, Maddison Steffensmeier, Cheyenne Cleland and Mariah Dubas, Back, l.-r., Dominik Cuevas, Abigail Pohlen, Morgann Johnson, Addy Donelson, Sarah Johson and Kevin Haase.

The Newman Grove Independent Science Researchers (ISR) recently competed at three regional science fairs, the Greater Nebraska Science and Engineering Fair in Nebraska City, AHEC 8th Grade Science Meet and the Northeast Nebraska Regional Science Fair in Wayne.
This year, there were 10 students who took part in ISR and completed their own science research. Due to such busy schedules, not everyone was able to compete at all the science fairs, but they were able to ask questions, complete the scientific process, collect data, and even draw conclusions to their questions.
“Science fairs can open doors to many opportunities our students have never done before, such as traveling, public speaking, sharing of research, even college scholarships and representing the United States,” Danielle Amen, Newman Grove science teacher and ISR advisor, said.

AHEC Eighth Grade Science Meet
Elyssa Cuevas, Morgann Johnson, Addy Donelson, and Kevin Haase participated in this year’s competition. This meet was unique, as it is not only a science fair but also a health science career exploration day. The students participated in various hand on activities and listened to experts in the medical field explain their careers.
