Cardinal grads, Charger help winning side in 2019 NEN All-Star Classic

Jon Merten loses his headgear while making a tackle in NEN All-Star Football Classic

A big lead, to holding on, but in the end the Whites had it.
“It” was a 20-13 victory in the 7th annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic, played on another warm day Saturday at Norfolk’s Veterans Memorial Field.
The win made the all-star experience that much sweeter for participating Albion News area standouts. Former Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals Brenden Beierman, Weston Choat, Will Frey and Jon Merten, and Riverside High graduate Ty Martinsen, were all key figures for the 2019 White team.
In fact, few White team members played a larger role than Martinsen. Along with a handful of tackles from his linebacker position, the former Charger star intercepted a Red pass in the second quarter and raced 49 yards down the west sideline for a touchdown that put the Whites ahead 17-0.
Following the contest, Martinsen was named the White “Defensive Player of the Game” for his efforts.
