Toma Chic Rutten

Toma Chic Rutten, the son of Sam and Seeta (KumPoowaKow) Rutten was born on March 7, 1979 at Fullerton, NE.  Toma was baptized at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.  He attended elementary School at Cedar Rapids and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1997.  Toma attended Northeast Community College persuing a degree as an electrician.  He then came back to Cedar and has worked as a beekeeper at the Adee Honey Farm.

            On September 25, 2004 Toma was united in marriage to Nena Buettner at the United Methodist

Church in Albion.  The couple lived south of Cedar Rapids.  Toma was a gentle spirit and was so proud of his family.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. 

            Toma died on Saturday, January 26, 2008 as the result of an automobile accident east of Wolbach at 28 years old.

            He is survived by his wife Nena of Cedar Rapids; 2 children: Kaimyn Marie and Hunter Thomas; mother Seeta Rutten of St. Edward, NE; father Sam Rutten and brother Fred Rutten of Belgrade; grandparents: Ernie Rutten of Cedar Rapids, and Wilbur and Donna Cook of Albion; mother and father-in-law: Ranita and Tom Buettner of Cedar Rapids; brothers-in-law: Tom Buettner of Primrose, and Jeff Buettner of Kearney, NE; sister-in-law Tina Loeffler and husband Jeff of Grand Island; along with aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

            Toma was preceded in death by his great-grandparents; and his grandfather Chic Rutten.

 

            Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Rev. Martin Leeper and Rev. Vernon Olson officiating.  Burial will be at the Sunset Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the church.
