TIME OUT by Joe Flanagan

It’s hard.

Hard to let go of a dream. Hard to grasp falling just short of a lofty goal. Hard to realize there isn’t another game, another tomorrow to the season.

It’s just hard.

The Boone Central Cardinals are experiencing plenty of disappointment following Monday’s loss to Hastings St. Cecelia in the C1-4 District championship game.

That’s OK – it goes with the territory of setting high goals and working hard to achieve them. Sometimes you make it, sometimes you don’t. That’s sports. That’s life.

The disappointment will eventually fade. Then, for players, coaches and fans, there will be memories of another exciting and successful season.

Memories of arcing three-pointers and missed lay-ups. Memories of soaring dunks and clanked free throws. Memories of high fives and roaring cheers – and of faces buried in towels and silent gyms.

It all goes hand-in-hand. Games that thrill us and torment us – and teach us lessons along the way, in victory and in defeat.
