Shots Won’t Fall as Boone Central downed by HSC in district title tilt

Flanagan Drives for Two34-of-41. 16-of-29. 1-of-13.

Those numbers tell a good bit of the story in Boone Central’s 62-49 loss to Hastings St. Cecelia in the C1-4 District championship game Monday at Aurora.

The 20-2 Bluehawks capitilized on 34-of-41 free throw opportunities in the contest while Boone Central sank just 16-of-29 attempts at the foul line. The Cardinals, after hitting their first three-point shot attempt of the night, saw their final 12 long-range tries bounce off the rim, as well.

Those numbers, coupled with a slow start and big first-half deficit, were too much for the Cards to overcome. Boone Central finished its season 18-4.

“Overall, it’s been a nice season, it’s just disappointing,” Boone Central Coach Chuck Perone commented. “This is just a great bunch of kids. It’s a big disappointment for you when they’re even better kids than they are players.”
