Boone Central Speech Team competed in the B-4 District Speech Tournament held at Pierce on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. The team received fourth place overall. Boone Central accumulated 91 points, just behind Lakeview, Wayne, and Pierce who earned 92, 93, and 100 points respectively. Earning superior ratings were: Sara Barnes, Persuasive; Bob Coakes, Entertainment; and Hilary Wolf, Poetry. Medalists included: Kelly Flanagan, sixth in Extemporaneous; Jennifer Simons, fourth in Extemporaneous; Hilary Wolf, fourth in Informative; Halie Smith, fourth in Humorous Prose; Allison Claar, sixth in Poetry; Shalynne Figgner, fifth in Serious Prose; Dakota Olson, fourth in Serious Prose; Lauren Bygland, second in Informative; Bill Kusek, first in Humorous Prose; and Shalynne Figgner, Brandon Gottier, Bill Kusek, Kevin Carder, and Halie Smith, first in Oral Interpretation of Drama.
The top three finalists in each event are sent to the state tournament. The following members will be competing in the state tournament in Kearney on Tuesday, March 18: Lauren Bygland, Informative; Bill Kusek, Humorous; Shalynne Figgner, Bill Kusek, Kevin Carder, Halie Smith, and Brandon Gottier, Oral Interpretation of Drama.
