City Council approves sewer expansion

Albion City Council last Tuesday night approved a sewer expansion project and handled a wide variety of other business.

John Zwingman of Advanced Engineering Services was present to report on plans for the city sewer expansion along south Highway 39-14.

Zwingman has completed the plans for the 1,600 feet of sewer main, lift station and forced main. This extension will connect to the sewer main that runs west of Alco and the new professional building. It will serve the new fire station and other businesses in the area.

Zwingman said he was optimistic that the project cost could be under the original estimate of $125,265. Andy Devine, city administrator, reported that he had received commitments from three property owners in that area to participate in the sewer project. Some details involving easements still need to be worked out, he said.

The plans and specifications were approved by the council. Bids could be as soon as the council’s May meeting.
