Although conditions were less than ideal Tuesday, April 8, the Boone Central golf team was able to host a triangular at the Albion Country Club and handily defeat squads from Fullerton and Twin River. On a cool, breezy afternoon, the Cardinal varsity fashioned a 159 team score, well ahead of the 182 totals of the Warriors and Titans. In JV action, Fullerton shot a 202 and Boone Central finished at 212.
Boone Central’s four scoring varsity team members were bunched fairly close in Tuesday’s competition. Senior Bobby Bolin led the Cards with a nine-hole score of 38. Senior Brent Dawson fired a 39, junior Bryce Morgan added a 40 and senior Taylor Majerus finished at 42.
Although last week’s spring snowstorm wiped out the Boone Central Invitational golf tournament on its originally scheduled date Saturday, Mother Nature cooperated enough Monday for 10 teams to compete in the annual event at the Albion Country Club. The host Cardinals placed a solid third in the meet with an 18-hole team total of 341. Wayne (334) won the tourney, finishing two strokes in front of Norfolk Catholic (336).
Individually, three Boone Central players medaled and all five varsity golfers finished in the top 20. Senior Bobby Bolin led the way for BC, placing third with an 81. Junior Bryce Morgan was seventh with an 82 and senior Brent Dawson placed 15th, shooting 88. Sophomore Alex Schafer narrowly missed medaling, finishing in a 17th place tie with a 90. Senior Taylor Majerus tied for 20th with a score of 92.
