Boone Central Golfers Earn State Berth

Bryce Morgan & teammates placed 2nd in districtIt has been a bit of a choppy season for the Boone Central golf team with often-miserable weather and uncertainty at the back end of the line-up.
However, despite blustery conditions at the Wayne Country Club Monday, the Cardinals found smooth sailing to a second-place finish in the B-3 District tournament and a berth in the 2008 Nebraska Class B State Golf Tournament.
With three team members placing in the top 10 individuals, Boone Central posted a 346 score, three strokes back of host Wayne (343) and three in front of Omaha Skutt Catholic (349).
Card Coach Jesse Brodersen called Monday’s performance an “awesome accomplishment”.
No Cardinal was more awesome on the day than senior Taylor Majerus. Normally the fourth player in the BC line-up, Majerus fired an 18-hole score of 84 in the windy conditions and placed fifth among individuals. He was consistent throughout the competition, shooting 42 on both the front and back nines.
“Taylor played the round of his life and he did it at the perfect time,” Brodersen praised.
Boone Central also received strong play from the stellar pair at the top of its line-up – senior Bobby Bolin and junior Bryce Morgan.
Morgan also shot a steady 84 (42-42) and placed seventh while Bolin fashioned an 85 (40-45) and finished 10th. Rounding out scoring for the Cards were seniors Brent Dawson (93) and Beau Beckwith (128). The top four scores comprise the team total.
