Schalk Forges Tie In BCR Hobby Stocks

Dylan Smith (95) holds off Cole Haddix (05) in Modified racingJon Schalk of Cedar Rapids didn’t win the Hobby Stock A Feature Friday at the Boone County Raceway, but did forge into a first-place tie in the season point standings by finishing three places ahead of cousin Bryan Molt.
Hobby Stocks continued to be the most competitve class during last week’s racing. Along with Schalk tieing Molt for the top spot, Norfolk’s Nic Kimmel and Chris Tenski of St. Edward lurk just five points back in a third-place deadlock.
No other point leads changed June 20, although Albion’s Mark Hooker picked up one point on his brother, Street Stock leader Randy Hooker of Humphrey. Local favorite Mark Lueken retained a comfortable advantage after his first BCR Late Model feature win of 2008 and Jason Gaver of Columbus continued to run away from the pack in the Modified division.
Fans were also treated to the first appearance by the Holt County Sprints during Friday’s card.
