Mike Kelley and Chad Briese scored victories for local drivers – winning the Late Model and Hobby Stock A Features, respectively – and season point leaders increased their advantages in all classes during the Boone County Raceway Special Friday, July 4.
Kelley wheeled to his third A Feature win of the season and split the drivers who were tied for second in the Late Model season standings a week ago. The Albion favorite took over third place, one point behind Nick Wehrle of Madison and a point ahead of Norfolk’s Robert Osborne. Defending LM champ Mark Lueken of Albion continues to lead the class.
Briese scored his first feature victory of 2008 in Hobby racing, while Bryan Molt of Cedar Rapids added two points to his division lead with a third-place run. Jason Gaver of Columbus also finished third in the Modified A Feature and also tacked two points onto his season advantage, while fellow Columbus driver Jared Hoefelman notched his third feature win of the BCR campaign.
Troy Bergman of Columbus won a very competitive Street Stock A Feature – his first BCR feature win of ‘08. Humphrey’s Randy Hooker had the biggest gain among point leaders, adding three points to his edge with a runner-up feature finish.
