Final preparations are being made this week for the Boone County Relay for Life, the annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
It will be held Friday and Saturday, July 11-12, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the Boone Central Track and Field Complex.
Teams will be participating by walking the track for several hours. Also, there will be a program of music, a testimony, reading of the names on the luminaries and playing games.
All teams are encouraged to decorate their campsite areas.
The theme this year is “Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.” Participants will celebrate the lives of those who have had cancer, remember those that have been lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.
As always, the Relay will celebrate life with the Survivors Lap. The caregivers will then join the survivors, and the teams will walk together for another lap.
Albion Knights of Columbus will provide the lunch stand for the first four hours of the Relay. Luminaries can still be purchased that evening.
Earlier on Friday, July 11, at 8 a.m., volunteers will be needed to help fill the sacks with sand and place the luminaries around the track. All ages can participate, and youth are encouraged to help. The more people available, the faster the task can be done.
