All athletic teams want to get a new season off to a successful start. Mission accomplished for the Boone Central volleyball team.
The Cardinals traveled to O’Neill Thursday, Sep. 4, and dominated the host Eagles in an impressive 25-14, 25-21, 25-9 sweep.
“Blocking and defense won this match for the Cardinals,” commented BC Coach Erin Eickhoff. “The girls played aggressively. We had some big blocks that were turning points in the games.”
“The girls played with a fire in their eyes that I haven’t seen in a long time,” said Eickhoff. “They came prepared and executed their plays.
“They worked hard and it looked like they had a great time doing it,” she added. “If we continue to play with this passion every night, it will be a fun year.”
Erica Carder led Boone Central servers with 17-of-18 and two aces. Brooke Michael went 14-of-16 with a pair of aces and Brittany Luettel added two aces on 7-of-9 serves.
Carder was 33-for-33 on set attempts with 20 assists and Michael chipped in 11-of-12 with three assists.
Luettel led the Card attack with a 21-of-23 hitting performance and 12 kills. Stephanie Paulson added five kills and six blocks while Megan Bygland put down BC’s other five ace blocks.
