In a cross country competition packed with standout runners and teams, Cardinals Kevin Carder and Halie Smith again stood out for Boone Central Friday in the Scotus Invitational at Columbus.
Carder raced to a third-place finish in the boys division and Smith took fourth among varsity girls.
“I felt we had a good day. Even though many of the kids ran faster here last year, they were still very competitive this time,” commented Boone Central Coach Tom Dickey. “Halie and Kevin are running exceptionally well. Kevin beat kids that, even last week, he didn’t think he could run with.
“I was encouraged with the progress of Jacob Lindgren and Tyler Iverson and was glad to see Lana Koziol get up to win a medal.
“Each week is an opportunity for the kids to make something good happen!”
Carder led BC to a seventh-place team finish with his third-place run of 16:45. The Cardinal girls also finished seventh, led by Smith’s fourth-place 16:42 effort (3rd all-time for Boone Central girls). Koziol was a strong 14th in the tough meet with a 17:58 clocking.
