BCHC ‘burns’ mortgage, operates debt free

Vic Lee, hospital CEO, and Dr. Mark Palmer, chairman of the Board of Trustees, burn the hospital’s 2001 mortgage.

There was good reason to celebrate at Boone County Health Center last week.

The BCHC Board of Trustees made a final payment and retired the tax-levied bond on the 2001 hospital addition — and did it 13 years early.

In making the final payment, the board also made good on a promise to taxpayers and Boone County Commissioners to pay the entire cost of the 2001 renovation from operating revenues. The Health Center and medical clinics are now debt free.

Boone County Health Center this year paid off $802,600, which includes $785,000 of principal. The original payoff date was Oct. 15, 2021.
