The Boone Central softball team battled hard in the Class C-5 district tournament at Central City Thursday, Oct. 9, but could not pull out a victory.
The Cards dropped decisions to Cross County and tournament host Central City, finishing the 2008 season with a 13-16 record.
“Overall, I am proud of the team’s effort this season!” praised Boone Central Coach Brandon Detlefsen. “We made some improvements from last year and will continue to build for the future.
“The seniors were an outstanding group to work with and will be missed a lot.”
Missed opportunities plagued Boone Central in its opening district tournament game, a 7-3 loss to the Cross County Cougars.
The Cardinals stranded a runner at third base in the first inning, left runners at second and third in the second and two more at first and third bases in the third frame.
On the flip side, BC had trouble closing innings with Cross County at bat. The Cougars scored their initial runs in the first with two outs, added a pair of two-out runs in the third and took advantage of two Card errors to tally the decisive runs in the fourth.

Central City used a quick start and strong finish to eliminate Boone Central from the C-5 tourney with a 6-3 decision Thursday afternoon.
“We gave up two runs to them in the first inning and couldn’t seem to gather enough momentum to make a run at them,” commented Detlefsen. “Central City is a good team and we played well after the first.
“It was great that Calen ended her high school career hitting an inside-the-park home run.”
