Card Volleyers Score Big Road Win

The Boone Central Cardinals got off to a strong start and rolled to a 3-1 victory at Hartington Cedar Catholic Thursday, Oct. 16, in Mid-State Conference volleyball action.
Boone Central, 10-7, competed in a triangular event at Twin River Tuesday night and will begin play in the annual Mid-State Conference Tournament Monday at Pierce.
The Cards grabbed early momentum against Cedar Catholic, defeating the Lady Trojans 25-15 in the opening game, then edging out a 26-24 victory to go up 2-0.
The hosts bounced back with a 25-19 win in game three before Boone Central put away the overall decision with a handy 25-18 victory.
Boone Central was strong at the service line, hitting 86-of-92 (93%), and nearly perfect in sets (113-of-114, 99%). The Cards hit a solid 83 percent in the match (123-of-148).
Leading the way for BC was senior Brittany Luettel, with 13 kills, a solo block and an ace serve. Senior Julia Temme also pounded 13 kills and scored an ace serve.
Brooke Michael led set assists with 27, while Megan Bygland (7 kills), Stephanie Paulson (4) and Bobbi Beckwith (3) helped Luettel and Temme on the attack. Bygland also had a pair of blocks and two ace serves.
Boone Central will open the conference tournament Monday in a 5:30 p.m. match at Pierce against West Point Central Catholic.
