Boone Central opened play in the 2008 Mid-State Conference volleyball tournament Monday by splitting a pair of matches.
The 4th-seeded Cardinals lost a five-set heartbreaker to West Point Central Catholic in the first round, then swept Madison 3-0 in consolation play.
Tuesday, the Cardinals battled Hartington Cedar Catholic in the 5th place match, dropping a tough 3-2 decision to the Lady Trojans.
