Looking to gain momentum for the Mid-State Conference and C1-9 Sub-District volleyball tournaments, Boone Central swept matches in the Twin River triangular Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Genoa.
Following up a key conference road victory at Hartington Cedar Catholic, the Cardinals nipped a solid Twin River squad in two close sets and rallied for a 2-1 decision over Fullerton.
The host Titans and Boone Central hooked up in a thriller that saw the Cards eke out a 28-26, 27-25 victory.
In a match played at a high level of competition, Boone Central went 46-of-49 (94%) at the service line with six aces and hit 91 percent (43-of-47). Card setting was nearly spotless (53-of-54, 14 assists).
Megan Bygland led a balanced attack with four kills and a block. Steph Paulson added three kills and one block and Bobbi Beckwith smacked three kills. Brooke Michael led assists with 10, while Erica Carder and Brittany Luettel each served a pair of aces.
The Cardinals got off to a slow start against Fullerton, but rebounded from a 14-25 loss in the opening set to take the match with 25-10, 25-15 victories.
Serving was again strong (55-of-58, 9 aces), while hitting efficiency dropped slightly (44-of-52, 85%, 23 kills). Card setters were again successful at a 99 percent clip with 21 assists.
Paulson topped kills with six. Luettel and Julia Temme added five apiece. Michael again led assists with 16 and Temme ripped six ace serves in the match.
Boone Central took a 12-7 season record into the first round of the Mid-State Tournament Monday.
