Punkin Chunkin’TM again proved to be a popular event last Sunday, Nov. 2, even though it had to be postponed a week due to muddy conditions in the field.
The crowd was estimated at more than 1,500 people, with many activities available for all ages.
Winner in the Punkin’ Chunkin’TM air cannon division at Petersburg Sunday was “Grandpa’s Gun” Team of Lindsay with a distance of 3,071 feet.
Team members included Ralph Weeder, Kyle Wagner, Matthew Wagner, Mark Wagner and Scott Jarecki.
Second place distance went to “This Morning’s Hangover.” Team members included: Bev Scholl of Grand Island, Matt Sands of Yoder, WY, Daisy Scholl of Newman Grove, David Scholl and Joel Dietz of Seward, Janice Mangelsen and Dee Dixon of Albion. Team members said they didn’t do anything new, just loaded it up.
Third place winners were “One Shot/One Chance,” with Merle Moser, Craig and Travis Sprout and Terrance Reel, all of Elgin.
Fourth place was “The County Boys” with team members Lee Daniels, Kurt Klein, Bob Foss, Dave Sandman and Brad Thieman.
Accuracy contest winners were John and Christian Walbrecht of York, who hit the bull’s eye. Second place was the Scholl team.
High school division winners were Atkinson West Holt High School with a potato gun, The Gamsig 4000. Team members were Aaron Fritz, Eric Fritz, Zeb Elm, Ethan Anderson, Beth Olson, Jessica Welsh and physics teacher Mr. Hale. The machine was built in a projective motion class and completed in four days.
