Laurie Krohn, a 14-year veteran of the County Treasurer’s office, was appointed as the new Boone County Treasurer after an interview with County Commissioners Monday afternoon.
She replaces Helen Preusser, who retired from the position Dec. 31, 2008, after 14 years of service.
Mrs. Krohn has worked in the courthouse for a total of 27 years. She was employed in the Assessor’s office for 13 years before transferring to the Treasurer’s office as Deputy Assessor in 1994.
She will serve the remainder of Mrs. Preusser’s elective term, which ends in January of 2011. The office will be up for election in 2010.
Mrs. Krohn grew up in Albion and graduated from Albion High School in 1980. She then attended Grand Island School of Business, graduating in 1981.
She and her husband, Dennis, have two children. Greg, 19, is a student at Northeast Community College, and Jessica, 16, is a junior at Boone Central High School.
Mrs. Krohn plans no immediate changes in the office or its operation, but she will be advertising for an additional clerical employee. A new Deputy Treasurer will also be named in the future.
