The Boone Central wrestling team came out of its competition last week a bit disappointed.
The Cardinals lost a dual at Grand Island Northwest Thursday that Head Coach Dale Bonge felt his team could have captured, then placed 10th in the 13-team David City Invitational Friday.
The Cards will look to regroup this Saturday as they host the annual Boone Central Invitational in Albion (10:00 a.m.).
Boone Central began last week’s action in Grand Island, taking on the Northwest Vikings in a dual that had been previously postponed by bad weather.
The hosts grabbed an early lead and won several key matches at the midway point of the line-up to earn a 42-33 victory.
“This is one dual we felt we let get away,” commented Bonge. “There were several situations that, had they gone slightly differently, we would have come out on top.”
The Cardinal mat team traveled to David City Friday and had some tough luck while placing 10th in the team standings.
“This tournament is run in a ‘pool’ format that sometimes does not work as well as it should,” Bonge said. “Examples would be Jacob, Tyler and Keir Dane, who all had just one loss, but by criteria did not make the semi-finals and could only place as high as fifth – which they did.”
Boone Central had no individual champions in the tournament. Dustin Martin led the Cards with a third-place finish, Kevin Krohn and Issiah Bauld each took fourth and Meyer, Iverson and Harner all placed fifth.
“Like most meets, this one had both positives and negatives as far as how we performed,” noted Bonge.
