Flu has been hitting hard in Boone County recently.
Due to absences caused by the flu, classes were canceled at Boone Central Elementary last Thursday and Friday, Feb. 12-13.
There was no school for prekindergarten through fifth grade classes, because they were the hardest hit. A total of 58 students, nearly one-fourth of the total elementary enrollment of 240, were absent on Wednesday, Feb. 11, according to Superintendent Larry Lambert.
The absentees were lower at Boone Central Middle School and High School, so those classes remained in session Thursday. All classes were canceled last Friday due to a winter storm.
