Vote for your favorites in ‘Polar Bear Dip’

Boone County residents can vote for their favorite officer from the Sheriff’s Department to take a “dip” in the icy Cedar River this week.

Cedar Rapids is preparing for the fifth annual Toma Rutten Polar Bear Dip this Saturday, Feb. 21, and voting boxes have been placed at locations throughout the county.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department will be represented by the officer getting the most votes in the ballot boxes placed around the county.

Lighting of the bonfire will be at 2 p.m., and the “Polar Bears” will jump in the river starting at 3 p.m.

Other events will include chili judging, a soup supper, an “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader” contest and a dance.
