New plan to include only building renovations
Boone County Commissioners shelved their plans for an addition to the county courthouse on Monday.
They approved a motion to consider plans only for renovation of the existing building, with no expansion.
“We’ve seen dramatic changes in the economy, including the ag economy, in the two years we’ve been working on this project,” said Commission Chairman Tom Schuele.
“I don’t think we can spend the kind of money we were originally talking about,” said Commissioner Hank Thieman. “Still, we have an obligation to take care of deficiencies in the existing courthouse.”
Commissioner Jerry Tisthammer agreed, saying: “The public perception (on the addition) has been mostly negative, but we have some things we have to fix.”
