Although outscoring opponents by a total of just 99 points over 23 games, the Boone Central Cardinals used a decided rebounding advantage and tenacious defense to fashion a 15-8 record in 2008-09.
Boone Central averaged just 49 points per game over the ‘08-09 season, but held opponents to 44.7 points per contest. The Cardinals outrebounded their foes by 144, an average of 32.6-26.3 per game, and had a distinct edge in offensive rebounds (273-163). BC also forced 338 turnovers while committing 296.
The Cards held opponents to 38.7 percent shooting overall and allowed foes to hit just 26.6 percent of their three-point tries. Boone Central shot 42.1 percent from two-point range, 25.6 percent beyond the arc, 38.2 percent overall. The Cardinals sank 58.4 percent of their free throw attempts.
Boone Central also had a decided edge in blocked shots (71-37) and made more steals than its opponents (199-162). Cardinal players drew 11 charges during the season and made 314 defensive touches.
Senior Ryan Shotkoski led Boone Central scorers, averaging 19.6 points per game. Zoucha topped Card rebounders with 10.3 per contest.
