Boone Central senior Bryce Morgan must feel a bit like “One Tin Soldier”.
Although Albion Country Club Professional/Boone Central Golf Coach Jesse Brodersen has 19 golfers competing this spring, Morgan is the lone letterman returning for the Cardinals.
He’s a good one, however.
Morgan has qualified for the Class B State Tournament in two of his three varsity seasons and, with Boone Central dropping to Class C in golf in 2009, should be primed for a strong senior season.
Morgan was a member of Boone Central’s district runner-up squad in 2008 that competed in the Class B state tourney at Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln. He fired 81/81-162 – the second best Cardinal performance in the tournament.
During the ‘08 season, Morgan placed 4th in the Fullerton Invite, 5th at the Ord and Neligh Invites, 7th in the Boone Central Invitational and 10th in the Mid-State Conference meet before a 10th-place individual showing at the B-3 District meet.
Morgan also qualified for the 2006 Class B state tournament to cap his freshman varsity campaign.
Joining the senior stalwart this spring will be an entirely new cast that includes seniors Dusty Dozler, Keir Dane Harner and Seth Johnson, juniors Tanner Warner and Miles Wynn, sophomores Jacob Olson, Tanner Anderson, Sam Johnson and Curtis Thompson and freshmen Sean Soll, Derek Fisher, Trevor Koetter, Jacob Meyer, Jordan Bauld, Kade Leetch, Mark Tisthammer and Marcus Lee.
The Cardinals are scheduled to open the season with a dual vs. Ord at the Albion Country Club Tuesday, April 7.
