Keep Nebraska Beautiful and the Great American Clean Up is held March 1 through May 31, 2009. The local cleanup was held last Thursday evening, April 23.
Many area residents, from age seven to 70, met at the Petersburg Fire Hall with bags, rakes and “lots of spirit.”
Areas cleaned included the Petersburg Community Park, the downtown park and the business area. Tree branches, limbs and trash were picked up and hauled to the dump site.
After the cleanup, participants met again at the fire hall and had a pot luck dinner.
Petersburg is cleaner due to all the efforts, and the town will continue with Keep Nebraska Beautiful activities until the end of May.
