The annual Wayne Invitational golf tournament always features a large, strong field of teams and individual players competing over a great Wayne Country Club layout. The 2009 event was no exception.
Boone Central senior Bryce Morgan proved again that he belongs among the elite competitors, placing third in the May 7th tourney. In team standings, the Cardinals finished 13th (of 20).
“Bryce is playing well – he placed third behind last year’s state champion from West Point/Beemer (Richard Schneider) and a player from Cedar Catholic who is on a very strong team,” praised Card Coach Jesse Brodersen. “Bryce only had 27 putts on the day (18 holes), while playing the par 3’s in one under and the par 5’s in three under.”
Morgan’s 75 left him three strokes back of champion Schneider and just one behind runner-up Cody Klug of Hartington CC.
Boone Central finished with a 357 team score. Cedar Catholic won the team title with a 317 total. Tekamah-Herman (325) finished second and Oakland-Craig (327) third.
Rounding out the team score for the Cards were Collin Chaney (92), Tanner Warner (93) and Dusty Dozler (97). Kade Leetch finished with a 101.
