County will purchase SourceGas building

Former SourceGas building in downtown Albion.Boone County Commissioners on Monday approved purchase of the former SourceGas building on Fourth Street, east of the courthouse.

The building at 233 South Fourth Street will become the new location of the Boone County Social Services office after minor renovations are completed.

A purchase price of $45,000 was negotiated by Tom Schuele, board chairman, and the closing date was set for June 1, 2009.

Schuele said the building has “at least” 2,000 square feet on the main floor, with a full finished basement for additional storage. He estimated the cost per square foot at between $20 and $25 per square foot, much lower than the new construction cost for the proposed courthouse addition.
