Hazardous waste collection is Saturday

Paint, chemicals, fertilizers and many other household hazardous wastes will be collected in Albion this Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the north side of City Hall.

Acceptable hazardous waste items are paints, stains, varnishes, lawn chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides, mercury and mercury related materials, computers (two per family), batteries, used motor oil, prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and fluorescent bulbs.

Items not accepted include commercial and agricultural waste, gasoline, farm chemicals, tires or antifreeze.

Televisions will also be accepted for a fee of 50 cents per pound.

Paint should be brought in a separate container or box, and all containers should be five gallons or less.

The collection is sponsored by the City of Albion and the Grand Island Area Clean Communities System.
