Busy weekend of events set for area towns

ents is scheduled this Friday through Sunday, June 12-14, in Boone County communities.

Relay for Life, a cancer research benefit event, will be at the the Boone Central track starting at 7 p.m. Friday and continuing through 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Cedar Rapids will be hosting its 125th anniversary celebration (Q125) on Saturday and Sunday, with a parade scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday and various other events throughout the day. The new Cedar Rapids Fire Hall will be dedicated at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Petersburg also has many events scheduled for the upcoming weekend. Alumni banquets for Petersburg High and St. John’s will be held Saturday evening at Werner Hall. On the same evening, the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their annual “Cruise the Burg” cruise night, with a barbecue supper followed by the annual Firemen’s Dance.

On Sunday, a Founder’s Day Picnic will be held at the Petersburg Park starting at 12 noon. This event leads up to Petersburg’s Q125 celebration in 2012.

Albion’s Million Dollar Golf Challenge will be June 17-20, and Petersburg’s Carnival Days is set for June 23-25, 2009.
