Gateway to Sandhills Bullride Has Bang-Up Action

july-4-bull-ride-vertical.jpgjuly-4-bull-ride-partin-ways.jpgjuly-4-bull-ride-hat.jpgThere were plenty of fireworks in and out of the rodeo arena Saturday, July 4, during the 15th Annual Gateway to the Sandhills Bullride Classic held at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Albion.
Thirty-four riders competed on some very ‘ornery stock, to the enjoyment of a large, enthusiastic crowd. The bullride competition was followed by a fireworks display and dance sponsored by the Boone County Ag Society.
A number of youngsters also tried their hand atop mini bulls between the main event first round and the short round that decided the top six cash winners.
The 2009 Gateway to the Sandhills champion was Josh Larsen of North Platte. Also cashing in were Dewey O’Dea of Sturgis, SD (2nd), Brett Zabokrsky of Washington, KS (3rd), Chet Kavorek of Thedford and Trey Kerner of Sutherland (4th-5th tie) and Sam Farrell of Denver, CO and Levi Stepp of Lincoln (6th tie).
Judges for the 2009 event were Jim McMillan and Pepper Rasmussen of Albion.
Gun Raffle winner was Jeff Wickett of Norfolk. Laurie Horn and Nancy Luettel of Albion were blanket winners.
The 2009 Gateway to the Sandhills Bullride Classic was presented by Boone Central FFA Alumni and Rodeo Rose Productions.
