Cardinal Harriers Off To Strong Start

Schilousky (l), Kelley, KoziolLed by senior Kevin Carder, Cardinal cross country teams got their 2009 seasons off to a strong start in the Boone Central Invitational Friday at the Albion Country Club.
Carder placed second individually, leading the Boone Central boys to a third-place finish. A young Card girls team finished sixth, but freshman Cassidy Pribnow scored an impressive sixth-place individual medal.
“I had high hopes for all our runners and teams and they seemed to rise to the occasion,” said veteran BC Coach Tom Dickey.
“In the girls race, Cassidy exceeded all expectations in one of Boone Central’s fastest times ever!” Dickey praised. “Kevin ran a fantastic race, with a hard-fought battle against Jon Powell of Columbus. His time was also exceptional, placing him atop the all-time Albion/Boone Central chart on our present course.
“I was just as pleased with the rest of the boys team. Brody Kelley showed incredible talent with a 15th place finish after only three weeks of running. Calvin Koziol made a successful debut in high school competition with a 19th place finish and Bryce Schilousky ran his fastest time ever to place 21st.
“Bryce did a fantastic job pulling his two younger teammates through the middle part of the race before having to back off the pace,” Dickey added. “The third place by the boys is one of our highest finishes ever in this meet, so naturally we’re pretty excited!”
