Boone Central Softball Season Ends At District

Savannah Baker guns down opponentA frustrating 2009 Boone Central softball season marked by numerous “narrow misses” ended Thursday with two more tough losses in the C-5 District tournament at Central City.
St. Paul broke a 1-1 tie with three late runs to defeat the Cardinals 4-1 in the opening round and host Central City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip BC 6-5 in an elimination game.
In a rematch of its regular-season finale, Boone Central tied the St. Paul Wildcats with Sara Wells’ third-inning run. St. Paul took advantage of two Card errors to score two runs in the fifth and added a run in the sixth while holding Boone Central scoreless over the final four frames. Boone Central got off to a strong start against Central City, taking a 3-1 first-inning lead and holding a 5-2 advantage through six before the big Bison rally.
“We played great ball this game – unfortunately, things snowballed in the seventh,” said Olson. “The girls played hard and never gave up.”
