Boone Central overcame all odds – miserable weather conditions, state tourney inexperience, defending champion Kearney Catholic – and won the school’s first girls golf state championship Tuesday in the 2009 Nebraska Class C State Tournament at Riverside Country Club in Grand Island.
Led by junior individual runner-up Brooke Bolin’s 78 and medal performances by sophomore Britany Seda (6th, 85) and freshman Amy Ahlers (11th, 87), the Cardinals put together a team total of 363, their second best score of the season, to handily defeat Kearney Catholic (376) and G.I. Central Catholic (382). Rounding out scoring for Coach Jesse Brodersen’s squad were senior Kayla Kettelson (113) and sophomore Breann Thorberg (126).
