Petersburg Community Club’s “Giant Pumpkin Contest” weigh-in started at 9 a.m. Sunday morning at Leifeld’s Hardware. Gerry Grundmayer of Hastings, formerly of Petersburg, set a new record with a pumpkin weighing in at 687 pounds. It surpassed last year’s by 107 pounds. Pat Thieman had the second place winning entry with a pumpkin weighing 420 pounds.
In the smallest pumpkin contest, Hank Thieman won with his .8 of an ounce pumpkin. He also showed two giant pumpkins weighing in at 364 and 229 pounds.
