Strong winds, accompanied by small amounts of new snow, hit the Boone County area Monday night and Tuesday, Feb. 8-9.
The strong north winds, estimated at 25 to 30 miles per hour, caused drifting on rural roads and difficult travel conditions. Strong winds were expected to continue into Tuesday evening.
Some area roads were nearly impassable due to drifting, and visibility was very limited.
Temperatures were in the single digits to 10 degrees overnight, with wind chills of zero to two degrees above zero.
Most area schools had a 10 a.m. late start on Tuesday due to the weather conditions.
