Looking to build momentum for this week’s sub-district basketball action following a tough week in the Mid-State Conference Tournament, the Boone Central Lady Cardinals posted impressive victories over Wayne and Fullerton Feb. 8-9 in Albion.
Boone Central (17-3) opened play in the C1-7 Sub-District at Columbus Tuesday night. The sub-district final is scheduled for Thursday at Columbus High School (7 p.m.).
The Cardinals hosted conference foe Wayne Monday, Feb. 8, for a game previously postponed by bad weather.
After dropping two straight contests to conclude the conference tournament, Boone Central righted its ship with a 52-40 Mid-State victory over a solid 10-7 Blue Devil squad.
“It was great to get back on track with a win against a quality opponent,” said BC Coach Mike Kennedy. “Our ability to get to the free throw line was a key and the kids did a great job making a high percentage of those free throws.
“We also did a super job rebounding, led by Cara Struebing’s 13,” he added. “Bobbi Beckwith continues to give us consistent scoring – she attacked the basket especially well in this game.”
Boone Central had little trouble dispatching Class C2 Fullerton Tuesday, methodically grinding down the Lady Warriors in a 61-36 decision.
The Cardinals finished their regular season with a strong all-around performance, limiting Fullerton to 23 points through three quarters and posting double-digit totals in each period.
“This was a great way to wrap up our regular season. We had great contributions from all 15 players that saw action, with 12 scoring,” Kennedy noted. “We defended with energy and intensity, which we take pride in.
“This was our 21st consecutive home win – the third season in a row that we have gone unbeaten at home. That’s an amazing tribute to our team.”
