‘Polar Dip’ again successful

Participants splash into the frigid Cedar River. Many “Dippers” again plunged into the icy Cedar River during the annual Polar Dip at Cedar Rapids last Saturday, Feb. 20. As the participants splashed into the water, a crowd estimated at 200 people watched from the bank.

The Toma Rutten Memorial event raised money for a college fund for Toma’s children, Kaimyn and Hunter, along with funds for the “Cedar Cares for Kids” account, which is used to help area families recover from emergencies such as accidents, injuries, illnesses or deaths.

A chili contest, soup supper, singing bee and dance were also part of the day and evening events.
