Community Club members gathered Monday, March 1 to discuss a variety of topics, however, the majority of time was spent focusing on the recent wind energy bill that stands to greatly affect the wind energy development in Petersburg.
Steve Boyer of Third Planet Windpower, along with Hank Thieman and Jim Dickerson, members of the legislative committee, explained the purpose of the 18-page bill regarding Nebraska Renewable Energy and Export.
The intent of LB 1048 is to encourage and allow opportunities for private companies to develop, own and operate renewable energy facilities for export of wind energy from the state. At the same time, the bill looks to preserve the benefits of the public power system.
